LGBTQIA2S+ Therapy

in South Carolina

Healing is inevitable when there is safety…

Being part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community can be difficult, especially if you come from a conservative religion. It can mean internalized homophobia and feeling you have to choose between your identity and your culture or family. It can be difficult to make meaningful relationships.

Therapy can help deconstruct harmful beliefs. My clients leave sessions feeling more grounded, hopeful, and sure of who they are. They are able to unburden the parts of themselves that have carried rigid, shameful beliefs since childhood with compassion. I use a method called IFS therapy to do this.

I identify as a pansexual, genderqueer therapist. I use gender-affirming care for ace spectrum, demi, genderqueer, non-binary, agender, transgender, intersex, and gender-nonconforming clients. I work with LGBQ+ clients and am poly and kink-positive.

I provide online IFS therapy services for anyone in South Carolina, including Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville, SC.

Therapy for BIPOC Clients

BIPOC community members are often re-traumatized as they seek help and support for their mental health issues. The daily impact of racism on BIPOC clients' health can lead to depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I am aware that my BIPOC clients are often dealing with grief that is a direct result of racism and violence that I will never fully understand. I recognize that the construct of white supremacy is dehumanizing and that my BIPOC clients have been taught to help white people see BIPOC humanity, rather than white people doing it themselves. I know that, for people in the BIPOC community, bringing up the pain of oppression and racism has often been met with disdain, which can make it extremely difficult to talk about with a white therapist. I work to never give the impression that this pain is going to be reduced. That’s why I love IFS therapy and use it exclusively. An IFS therapist actively works to remove any past bias and instead operate from the Self, or the compassionate, curious, open me that will never denounce another’s suffering. Healing is inevitable when clients feel safe, but creating that safety and reparation is my responsibility in session, never my clients. I have studied anti-oppression psychotherapy so I can address this trauma in my clients.

I recognize that the white community has eradicated indigenous and black history. I acknowledge that my practice is on the native land of Conagree, Cherokee, Yamasee, Westo, Sewee, Kusso, Santee, Lumbee, Pee Dee, Waccamaw, Waxhaw, Mvskoke.
